Alexandra Elkin is a filmmaker drawn to the inner worlds of people who push their limits. Her work explores how extraordinary physical challenges reveal the fears, desires, and transformations that shape who we become.

Her first feature documentary follows a 30-year-old woman and her friends as they attempt a rock-climbing ascent of El Capitan under the guidance of two leaders in their seventies. The film examines courage, aging, identity, and who we hope to become as we grow older.

Her second feature documentary, centered on runners attempting the 888-kilometre Infinitus ultramarathon, investigates what drives people to attempt the nearly impossible. Through stories of trauma, recovery, and relentless determination, the film reveals the psychological landscapes behind extreme endurance — and the emotional fallout that follows such achievements.

Moving and humanistic, Alexandra’s work is defined by emotional honesty and intimate character-driven storytelling. She is driven by a fascination with resilience, vulnerability, and the quiet transformations that occur when people confront their deepest limits.
